Your Initial Assessment

Your initial assessment with us takes the form of 2 appointments, one is with your surgeon and the other is with your dietitian. These are scheduled consecutively on the same day and the combined cost for these 2 appointments is €390.

First Appointment is with Mr. William Robb – Bariatric Surgeon
Second Appointment is with your Senior Dietitian

After this, most patients are referred for endoscopy, an ultrasound and some blood tests. These are usually covered by your health insurance policy.

Referral to other clinicians may be necessary and will be charged for separately by them:

  • Clinical Psychologist
  • Endocrinologist / Weight Loss Physician
  • Preoperative Risk Assessment Clinic in Blackrock Clinic

Planning Your Surgery and Preoperative Diet

Once the multidisciplinary team are happy for you to progress to surgery, we will arrange for:

  1. Preoperative Appointment or Telephone Consultation with Mr. Robb to plan your operation and a date for surgery – No charge
  2. Appointment with your dietitian to start your pre-operative diet and continue education about how your diet will change during recovery – No charge
  3. Date for your surgery

2 Years of Weight Loss Aftercare – Your Health. We Care.

We take your follow-up seriously. That’s why we ask you to pay for a programme of follow-up care 2 weeks prior to admission for surgery.

It’s our experience that our follow-up programme of care encourages patients to attend for their follow-up consultations and ensures that your health is optimised as you are losing weight.

Our multidisciplinary programme of follow-ups guides you, phase by phase, through your recovery to better health. Other services simply charge as you return and overall costs are similar.

Surgeon

6 weeks, 6 months and 12 months.

Physician/Endocrinologist

3 months, 9 months, 18 months and 24 months.

Blood tests to be performed with your General Practitioner 2 weeks prior to appointments.

Dietician

  • Post Discharge Telephone Call – Your dietician will call you in the first days after discharge to check on how you are and answer your dietary questions.
  • Follow-up Appointments with your Dietitian with your surgeon at 6 weeks, 6 months and 12 months after your surgery.
  • Virtual Consultations / Video Calls – 3 months and 18 months after surgery
  • Dietitian Corner – Our dietitians are here to help you and are available to answer your queries as you progress through recovery.

Physiotherapy – Let’s get moving and mobile

You will meet with our physiotherapist while you are in hospital and then again on the same day as you attend for follow-up 6 weeks after surgery. You will already have lost a considerable amount of weight and your mobility will be improving.

At both of these assessments you will receive exercise advice from a Blackrock Physiotherapist. Subsequent appointments are optional and would be charged for individually at your own expense.

Psychologist

We do not schedule a return appointment routinely with our psychologist but can do so for any patient who would like to.
