I began my journey in November 2024. Everything was seamless. I felt really looked after from the support and optimal care of the whole team including Lucy, Susan, Mr Robb, the dietitian and physiotherapist on my weight loss journey. The only regret I have is not doing it sooner! The benefits I am experiencing including non-scale victories have really enriched my life. I feel so much more healthier and comfortable in my own skin. My sleep apnoea is now gone thankfully. My cholesterol has come right down to a normal level. I am now able to buy clothes in regular shops again instead of always resorting to buying online. My energy has increased. It has influenced a more positive mindset in me overall. Mr Robb and his team will provide you with the utmost care and support on your weight loss journey and I would highly recommend Mr Robb. Definitely one of the best decisions I have made.

Blackrock weight care clinic has, without a doubt, saved my life.
Mr Robb and everyone working at this clinic made it so easy for me to say yes to my bariatric surgery.
My backstory is I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in September 2015 at the age of 46.
I had my life turned upside down & went from a reasonable, healthy busy Mam of 3 young kids to someone who couldn’t physically function the way I used to.
Following my initial diagnosis, it took a while & breaking both ankles & a few bones in my feet (over a period of 4 years) for me to realise my life had changed. I started piling on weight & I went from 12 stone to 19.5 stone over 10 years. I tried the usual weight loss groups, but found it very disheartening & a total waste of time & money.
I was very frightened for my future as I was now a woman in my mid 50’s with a BMI of 45.
I knew I was living on borrowed time and was at a high risk of developing cancer, diabetes, having a stroke or heart attack.
I was referred by my GP to an endocrinologist to discuss the possibility of trying Ozempic.
I tried it for a while, but it just made me nauseous & miserable. Additionally, I never felt comfortable putting drugs that weren’t medically needed into my body as I always worry about what the long-term effects these drugs would have on interacting with my MS meds.
It was at this stage that I was referred to Mr. Robb. The moment I first made contact with the Blackrock WeightCare Team. I knew I had chosen the right path. The moment you walk into the clinic, you are met by the nicest people. They provide you with all the information you need and guide you every step of the way. My surgery was covered by my Health Insurance, which was amazing. There were certain criteria I had to meet, and you need to commit to 2 years of aftercare, which you pay for upfront. This reassured me of the commitment this clinic was making to its patients.
Once I met Mr Robb, I knew I was meeting a brilliant surgeon. He is so kind & compassionate & really listens to his patients. I left his rooms, deciding there & then I’m doing this. I had my surgery 6 weeks later and have never looked back. It was the best decision that I ever made & now 7 months post surgery, I am almost 6 stone lighter
I feel safer now & forever grateful to Mr Robb & his team. He informed me today that I have most likely added 10 years to my life.
Anyone who is in a similar position to me should have no reservations about this surgery. It saves you a lot of heartache & pain & suffering further down the road.
My surgery was done robotically, and I spent just 2 nights in the hospital. As I mentioned before, the follow-up care is amazing. The nurses, dieticians, doctors, receptionists, and office staff become your friends & are there for you & invested in your health & well-being.
Thank you all once again.

Hi, my name is Ali El Messaoudi, and I underwent the SADI-S procedure. My starting weight was 177.8kg (27.99st / 392lbs).

From the moment I attended my initial consultation on 16 May 2025 at Blackrock Weightcare, I knew I was in the right place. I was warmly welcomed by Lucy and Susan — two of the kindest, most genuine people I have ever met. Their warmth and reassurance immediately eased my anxiety, and from that moment on I felt truly supported.

I then met with Dr William Robb, followed by my dietitian, Emer, another incredible human being. Everyone in this clinic is exceptional. The care, compassion, and professionalism are second to none.

Dr Robb was extremely thorough and took the time to explain every aspect of the procedures, the expected outcomes, and the journey ahead. At first, I was hesitant, this was a huge decision, but my gut told me I was in safe hands, and I absolutely was.

The process was efficient, well organised, and reassuring throughout.
After my consultation, I completed my blood work, had my scope scheduled, and a few weeks later received confirmation that everything was successful. I was initially scheduled for surgery on 9 September 2025, but on 6 August I received a call from Lucy offering an earlier date, 20 August 2025. Without hesitation, I accepted.

That’s when the real work began. With just one day’s notice, I started my liver-reducing diet. It was tough, but so is life, and I committed fully. Two weeks later, surgery day arrived. I was extremely nervous, but also excited.

From the moment I arrived, I was met by an incredible medical team. Dr Robb personally greeted me while I was being prepped for surgery, calm, kind, and reassuring. He truly has the most comforting presence. Everything was explained clearly, from the preparation to what would happen next.

Before I knew it, I was walking into theatre…and then waking up in recovery with my sister and brother-in-law laughing beside me. It felt like seconds had passed, yet my life had completely changed.

I spent two nights in hospital and took three weeks off work (four due to the physical nature of my job). The first two weeks post-op were challenging, but I was prepared and determined. By week three, I felt like myself again, moving more, feeling stronger, and honestly wondering if it was too good to be true.

Now, at six months post-op, I can confidently say these people have saved my life. I feel incredible, mentally, physically, and emotionally. I’m consistent with my daily vitamins, train with weights 3–4 days a week, cycle 6–10km daily at the gym, and stay active throughout the week, things I simply could not do before.

My results so far:
Starting weight: 177.8kg (27.99st / 392lbs)
Current weight (6 months post-op): 117.2kg (18.45st / 258lbs)
And still going.

I feel unstoppable.

Words cannot truly express how grateful I am. I owe my life to everyone at Blackrock Weightcare, but especially to you Dr William Robb. You have changed my life in ways I can never fully put into words. You have my eternal gratitude.

Thank you, Blackrock Weightcare, for everything you do.

I’ve struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. I’d never really considered surgery as an option, as it seemed so drastic. But after years of failed diets, fasting, Ozempic — you name it — I felt inspired to pursue surgery after seeing the transformative results for a couple of people I know who had a bypass.

I was planning on a bypass but then heard of the SADI. At my heaviest, I weighed over 26 stone. When I looked into this, and with Dr Robb’s guidance, I felt this would be the better option for me, as it is suited to people with a higher BMI and results in greater weight loss.

I had my surgery in April 2025. I now weigh just over 13 stone. I have lost a total of 82kg, or 12.9 stone so far, and I’m still losing weight — I can’t believe it. I honestly cannot remember a time when I weighed this much.

The difference the surgery has made to my life is hard to put into words. Everything is just so much easier now, and my anxiety and stress have improved too — no more panicking about whether chairs will hold my weight or airplane seat belts fitting. I’m really excited for my future and for getting to experience all the things I’ve missed out on over the years.

Yes, the surgery is tough and the recovery can be frustrating, but I can pretty much eat anything now, just in small quantities — the way most people naturally do. I can’t thank Dr Robb and his team enough for giving me this new lease of life.

OK, I will start at the beginning. After a long struggle with pain, inflammation and frustration with the healthcare system in Ireland, a very kind doctor (Prof. Griffin) referred me to Mr Robb. By then, I was confined at home from pain, I had to abandon a job in healthcare (a job I loved), and I was losing hope.

With the background history I had of being dismissed by doctors and having my pain dismissed, I was worried, but I felt I had nothing left to lose. I welcomed the kindness and professionalism of Mr Robb’s Team from the very first phone call with the lovely secretaries and the care coordinator. They were so welcoming, and understanding, empathetic and informative. They treated me like a human being, and not as an illness.

Losing weight was never my goal. Mostly because I never thought it was possible. Being pain-free was my goal, or at least having manageable pain levels, so when I was offered one last option, I jumped with both feet, and that team helped me make a decision that changed my life.
I was scared, but I was so fed up that I decided to make one last attempt. I pretended I wasn’t nervous, but deep down I was thinking: “What if this doesn’t work either?”

I had already spent so much time and money in hospitals, this was a huge commitment and sacrifice, but I wanted to help myself. I had my tests done, I met the Counselor and I was ready to try anything.

The surgery went very well, and for a few days, I struggled to get my pain under control because I had other health issues and got a small infection (due to retention and catheterisation). The CNS (Nurse Susan) was a god sent to me. She believed me, she helped me, she gave me yogurt, information and compassion, she really made me feel heard, and she was invaluable to me as she advocated for me so I could get those small complications out of the way. She went the extra mile, then and months after, I am forever grateful to her.

I started my follow-up with the Dietitian, Endocrinology, Physio, Counsellor, and the rest of the team. I was armed with a wealth of information about what to expect, and I followed their instructions as much as I possibly could. My body took time to heal, and slowly adapted to the new routine.

Listen, I was in pain every single day before surgery day. I needed steroid injections in my joints, I needed strong pain relief, and I had 7 surgeries that year. It was painful to just survive. Today, I take 1 paracetamol a week, most days… nothing. Only my vitamins. Talk about a revolutionary change.

I was discharged from 6 medical teams. I lost 64kg in 1 year. My inflammation markers are gone. My pain is almost just a memory, I am outside, and I think: “So this is what normal feels like! Being outside is actually Nice!”

I can go back to work with energy, and I feel fantastic, like the future and going back to the job I love may be a possibility again.

Dr Griffin and Mr Robb’s team saved my life. They gave me back a quality of Life I didn’t have since, well, forever…They gave me back hope by answering every question, Susan replied to my SMS on whatsapp when she was not even on duty (Sorry Susan).

There are no words to express how thankful I am, and there is nothing I can do or say to make you guys appreciate the magnitude and impact of your work.

All I want now is to be “that” person for other people in my job as well.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. And if you are reading this, trying to decide on your next big health decision, all I can say is, I understand your fear, but your freedom may just be on the other side of it. I wish you the best and all the peace, health brings.

I had my gastric bypass performed by Mr William Robb 10 months ago. I am now 38 KG lighter with another 11 kg to go! I had been recently diagnosed as diabetic, which was a shock and something I wanted to reverse. I left the hospital no longer diabetic and delighted with my choice.

My whole body is so much stronger, and I have regained my passion for exercise and life in general as well as a somewhat unhealthy – but fun – fashion obsession. I couldn’t be happier with the results!

Thank you to Mr Robb and team for making this such an easy process. Surgery can be daunting, but Mr Robb was able to answer any questions or concerns I had and really made me comfortable and made sure I had a full understanding of the whole process before I underwent surgery.

I couldn’t recommend the team enough; they changed my life and I couldn’t be more grateful for them giving me back my fitness and vitality.

One of my fears pre-surgery was if I would or could enjoy food the same way as I am a foodie… I need not have worried. I spend half of my time in France – gastro capital of the world – and I enjoy every meal, baguette and pastry (although I eat a lot of fish, chicken and veg too). Wine in moderation and exercise 3-5 times a week.

My energy levels are back to those of my 20’s and my skin and eyes are back to a more refreshed me. People comment on my vitality and zest for life. I am now a yoga and pilates junkie as well as a muscle and weights aficionado.

This, to me, felt like a healthy reset, setting me back on the healthy path for a long, fun life. No scars (unless you count one the size of a paper cut). And a team that is phenomenal at what they do. I travel a lot with work, and now my fitness apps and fun travel with me.

Age 50 I had struggled with weight issues for most of adult life, I had lived with chronic back and knee pain for years and had given up hope of feeling better. I existed but wasn’t enjoying life , pain was the first and last thought each day. Travelling with work was difficult , I hated planes and the stress was really taking its toll. Then in late 2024 a knee doctor asked if I had ever considered weight loss surgery in Ireland , I hadn’t and was surprised that it was an option. I submitted my health insurance details to the team in Blackrock and that was the best decision I ever made. From that point the team took over and made my journey from initial meeting with the wonderful Dr Robb , the assessments, the support team so easy that it I was completely at ease and felt so supported every step of the journey. It’s been 7 months since my Sadi-S surgery I am 7stone lighter on the scales but its the life changes that are simply impossible to measure! I live every day to the fullest, I make plans with enthusiasm and traveling is now something I enjoy.. I am still early in my journey but feeling this good and pain free after just 7months makes me feel so optimistic about what the future holds , and I can’t wait to enjoy all the things I have been missing out on. I feel 20yrs younger – Thank you to Dr Robb and the amazing team at Blackrock weight loss.

I cannot commend nor recommend Mr Robb highly enough. From our first meeting where he laid out all my options, he has been firmly in my corner. He suggested the route which he thought best for me and we came to a mutual agreement, the roux en y bypass.

Every member of his Blackrock crew are to be lauded as the care I received was exemplary. The friendly encouragement from the reception team, regular check ins re pain management, the provision of all information needed for recuperation at home, there was nothing left to chance.

I am 6 months post op on the day of this review and I’m down 9 stone. I had given myself 12 months to lose 10 stone so I’m well ahead of my target. I’m off almost all medication, walking 10k per day and in the gym twice a week. I never ever believed I’d be a gym goer, I was always too self conscious to put myself in that position. Now it’s completely different, I’m even enjoying the sessions.

I had noticed my agent wasn’t often submitting me for roles because my size rarely fit the casting briefs, now things have changed.

My only regret in this whole weight loss journey is that I wasn’t aware surgery was an option sooner. If you’re thinking of the surgical route to a healthier and more active you, definitely contact the Blackrock team.

My sincere gratitude to Mr Robb and all the crew. You have not just changed my life, you’ve given me a new one!
